Reflections from people I’ve worked with
“I worked with Corey for almost two decades and found him to be an essential partner in ensuring long-term sustainability for NAIS. He is a financial strategist who is able to look around corners and see impactful trends before they negatively impact an organization. That ability is rare, but will be increasingly essential in an AI-fueled landscape. Corey cares deeply about his work and the people he calls colleagues. I simply could not have been successful without him by my side.”
— Donna Orem, Former NAIS President“Corey combines an exceptional nonprofit finance, organizational, and board governance background with a highly thoughtful and personal approach to his work and colleagues. He is an effective leader and communicator who provides solutions-based insights into complex issues, adroitly manages difficult situations, and offers invaluable strategic perspective. Corey’s talents and personality help to make him a stand-out partner!”
— Jefferson Burnett, Former NAIS Vice President Government Relations & Strategic Initiatives“Corey brings a uniquely equipped toolkit to his work. He provides the kind of clear explanations about essentials that make a HOS feel more at home in Finance Committee meetings and beyond. He does so with a genuine curiosity about people and systems, an ability to integrate seemingly disparate pieces of data with an attunement to the big picture, and a tireless commitment to get the job done and done well. He does not simply assume that his first explanation or answer meets all needs, and his sense of humor (dry) humanizes work in a domain that seems otherwise accessible only to the privileged few with financial expertise.”
— Mike Hannas, Former Head of Carolina Friends School, Executive Coach + Leadership ConsultantAbout Corey McIntyre
Corey McIntyre brings more than twenty-three years of financial leadership experience in the independent school and nonprofit sectors, including nineteen years as Chief Financial Officer of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and prior service as CFO of The Langley School in McLean, Virginia. In these roles, he managed the accounting operations and led financial strategy, budgeting, investing, and institutional sustainability initiatives in close partnership with boards of trustees and finance committees.
He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, rising to Senior Manager and focusing on audit and assurance work in the nonprofit sector.
In addition to his executive leadership experience, Corey has served for eight years as a trustee at two independent schools in North Carolina, including six years as Treasurer. This combination of executive and board-level perspective — together with his experience as an independent school parent — informs his work with institutional leadership teams and reflects a deep understanding of the communities and commitments at the heart of school leadership.
Corey is known for combining disciplined financial analysis with steady, relational leadership. He helps schools clarify complex realities, build shared understanding, and move forward with pragmatic, sustainable financial strategy.
McIntyre Advisory builds on this experience, offering independent counsel to schools seeking clarity, durability, and sound governance.
Corey is based in North Carolina and works nationally with independent schools.
